Q: How Can We Prolong The Life Of Our Equipment?
A: If you’re not using your projector, turn it off.
Turning off your equipment over lunch hours and overnight will not only protect the life of your equipment but also, will not waste electricity. Simply putting your projector on standby and allowing it to switch itself off when it’s cooled down will stop any damage to the bulbs being used and prolong its life.
Never switch your projector off at the mains, always put it on standby.
This will always allow your fan to cool down the whole unit. If the main power is switched off, the projector will not have a chance to do this, resulting in lower life expectancy of the bulb and other circuits within the equipment.
Ensure that your projector is serviced at least twice a year.
When serviced, our engineers will clean/changed filters, bulbs, circuits etc if needed. The filter in the projector protects the lamp and other circuits from damage due to dust particles and other dirt in the air so it’s important that this is cleaned on a regular basis. By carrying out this simple task it will mean that you’re maintaining your equipment and avoiding any further damage to the working parts inside.
Give your projector room to breath.
You need to place your projector in a well ventilated area to avoid it overheating. The fan uses cool air to ensure that the equipment stays at as cool a temperature as possible and if it is placed by any solid object, this cool air is unable to circulate in the projector. This will then cause the equipment to overheat and burn out sooner than it should do.
Avoid extreme temperature changes.
If possible, try to avoid putting your equipment in extremely high or low temperatures, as this can affect its performance. If this is unavoidable or does happen, make sure you give the equipment the chance to adjust to the temperature of the room that you are using before any of it is switched on.
Avoid moving your projector whilst the lamp is cooling down.
The lamp in the projector is very sensitive so moving it before its had a chance to cool down is not advisable. This can take life out of the lamp, cause it to have a poorer quality and also cause it to burst.
Try to avoid putting interactive boards above radiators.
In order for your interactive board to work to its full potential, avoid placing it above a radiator or other type of heat source. If this is unavoidable, make sure you fit a deflector panel below the board to deflect the heat that will rise underneath it.
Protect any equipment from any kind of maintenance or decorating work going on in the surrounding areas.
Quite often, equipment is forgotten about whilst rooms are being altered or decorated. In this case, work going on around the equipment will cause higher dust/particle levels in the air and other potential damage to the equipment. So if possible, take this equipment down before having any work carried on around it. If you cannot remove the equipment from the room, make sure if it safely covered over to avoid any unnecessary damage.
Do not use your equipment and mounting brackets as part of a display.
Quite often in classrooms and the like, our engineers see equipment with parts of displays hanging from it or actually stuck onto the boards etc. This is not a good idea due to the fact that it can cause unnecessary damage if caught or pulled etc and you are not getting the full usage out of your interactive boards. Feel free to stick and hang around the equipment but never on it directly.
If you are unsure of anything at all, never do it yourself, always seek assistance.
It is never advisable to take on any tasks yourself if you don’t know or haven’t been instructed previously on any of your equipment. We are always here to help so don’t hesitate to call our office and speak to one of our members of staff if you need any help at all. Go to our contact page to get our details.
